Furnace rebates come from your gas utility, and in town that's CenterPoint Energy, which lets you hire any dealer as long as the application is filed in the year of the install. The city-owned electric utility matters if you add a heat pump or new air conditioner, since electric rates and rebates come from the city. Ask its utility office what it offers this year.
Will a new furnace fix the uneven heat in our older Arlington two-story?
Partly. Two-stage heat with a variable-speed fan runs longer, gentler cycles, which evens out floors better than a single-stage unit blasting on and off. In an early-1900s two-story, though, the bigger causes are usually ducts: few or small runs upstairs and no upstairs return.
