How Lennox is sold, and what that means for repairs
Most brands move through independent supply houses. Lennox doesn't. It sells its Lennox-branded equipment directly to dealers and runs its own network of Lennox stores, which also supply service and replacement parts to contractors. That setup is part of why Lennox equipment can feel like a closed system, but it doesn't limit who can repair it. Any licensed contractor can work on a Lennox furnace, and we do.
What it changes is how parts are sourced. Igniters, flame sensors, capacitors and common motors are easy to get. Specialty control boards and inverter boards for the top-tier outdoor units are Lennox-specific, so for those we verify availability before promising a day.
Lennox International also owns Allied Air Enterprises, which builds Armstrong Air. Armstrong goes through regular supply houses and sits at a lower price point.
Signature, Elite and Merit
Lennox sorts its equipment into three collections. The Dave Lennox Signature Collection is the top: variable-capacity outdoor units and furnaces like the SL297NV, which Lennox rates up to 97.5% AFUE. The Elite Series is the middle, with two-stage furnaces such as the EL296V. The Merit Series is the entry level, with single-stage furnaces like the ML196 and basic condensers.
On current Lennox models the prefix tells you the collection: SL for Signature, EL for Elite and ML for Merit. In Minnesota, the practical difference is how the furnace behaves on a long cold night. We also still come across the occasional Lennox Pulse furnace from the 1980s and '90s. At that age we check the heat exchanger and venting carefully and usually talk about replacement rather than another major repair.
Which thermostat replaces a Lennox iComfort S30?
Many Lennox systems from the last fifteen years are communicating systems run by an iComfort thermostat. Lennox has replaced the iComfort S30 and iComfort Wi-Fi with the S40, so if an older control fails, the S40 is the usual replacement. We read the stored alerts in the control before replacing any board, since a communication fault between the furnace and outdoor unit can look like a dead component. How cold can a Lennox heat pump keep heating?
Lennox's cold-climate SL22KLV, part of the Signature Collection, keeps heating in temperatures as low as -20°F by Lennox's rating. That is a real improvement over the heat pumps of ten or fifteen years ago. It still produces less heat as the temperature drops, and Minnesota nights go below -20°F some winters. Warranty Your Way, replacements and booking
Lennox's Warranty Your Way program lets you pick how to extend coverage when you register eligible equipment within 60 days of installation. If you're buying a house with a newer Lennox system, ask the seller for the registration confirmation.

Do I have to use a Lennox dealer for repairs?
No. Any licensed HVAC contractor can diagnose and repair Lennox equipment. Lennox sells new equipment directly to its dealers, but its company-owned Lennox stores also supply service and replacement parts to contractors. My Lennox iComfort thermostat died. What are my options?
Lennox has replaced the iComfort S30 and iComfort Wi-Fi thermostats with the S40. On a communicating Lennox system, the S40 is the replacement that keeps the variable-speed and variable-capacity features working. A standard thermostat can run some Lennox equipment in a basic mode, but you give up much of what the system was built to do.
How does Lennox Warranty Your Way work?
Register eligible equipment within 60 days of installation and Lennox lets you choose how to extend coverage, including options that add labor coverage. In a few states that prohibit registration requirements the rules differ, but in Minnesota registration matters. Keep the confirmation with your install paperwork.
Will a Lennox heat pump heat my house in January?
Lennox's cold-climate SL22KLV keeps heating down to -20°F by Lennox's rating, which is a big step up from older heat pumps.
