    Cold-climate load + balance-point design

    We run Manual J for both heating and cooling, then plot the heat pump's capacity curve against outdoor temperature to set the dual-fuel balance point — typically 5 to 15 °F in Minnesota.

    We spec a NEEP-listed cold-climate model with documented capacity at 5 °F and -15 °F, not just AHRI ratings at 47 °F.

    Smart thermostat is wired for dual-fuel staging: heat pump down to balance point, then lockout to gas furnace below it. Outdoor sensor is mounted.

    Vacuum, charge & commissioning

    System is evacuated to 500 microns, charged by weight, and tested in both heating and cooling modes. Subcool, superheat, and defrost cycle are verified.

  8. 08

    Homeowner handoff

    We walk you through dual-fuel behavior (it's quieter and runs longer than a furnace — that's normal), then file the rebate paperwork.
