Older Twin Cities homes without forced-air ducts, finished attics and bonus rooms, three-season porches, additions, basement apartments, and any space where one room is always too hot or too cold. A ductless mini-split puts a true independent thermostat in each zone — bedroom at 68°F, living room at 74°F, no compromise.
Single-zone installs (one outdoor + one indoor head) run $4,500–$6,500 and handle most single-room and addition projects. Multi-zone systems pair 2–8 indoor heads off one outdoor unit at $10,000–$18,000 depending on head count and configuration. Head options include high-wall, ceiling cassette, floor-mounted, and slim-duct concealed.
Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat H2i and Daikin Aurora are rated for full heating capacity at -13°F and continued operation to -22°F. That's enough to heat an addition or basement without a backup heat source through every Twin Cities winter we've installed in.

We do a Manual J per zone — every room a head serves — and pick a head location that throws air across the room, not into a couch back.
A single 3" core is drilled through the exterior wall at a slight downward pitch so condensate gravity-drains outside without an interior pump where possible.
The mounting plate is shimmed level (critical for condensate), the head clipped on, and the line-set is dry-fit before brazing.
Copper line-set is brazed under nitrogen purge or flared with the manufacturer's torque spec. Condensate line and 14/4 control wire run inside line-hide on the exterior wall.
Outdoor inverter sits on a wall bracket above snow line or a ground pad. A dedicated 240V circuit (single-zone) or 30A circuit (multi-zone) is pulled to the disconnect.
System is evacuated to 500 microns, decay-held, then the factory charge is released by opening the service valves. Refrigerant is added only if line-set exceeds the factory pre-charge length.
Heating and cooling modes are run, supply temperatures logged, and the WiFi kit (if equipped) is paired to the homeowner's phone.
