River Falls Municipal Utilities, the city-owned utility, serves most homes in town and takes part in Focus on Energy, so Wisconsin's statewide program is the main place to look for AC and heat pump incentives. The utility may also run offers of its own. Programs change, so we check what's current for your address before quoting and help with the forms after the install.

It depends on how the house heats now. If it already has a forced-air furnace, adding a coil and condenser to the existing ducts is usually the cheaper route, once we confirm the ducts can carry cooling airflow. If it heats with a boiler or baseboard, ductless mini-splits avoid cutting into walls, and a heat pump model can also take over some heating in spring and fall.

Set a minimum temperature, ideally on a Wi-Fi thermostat that alerts you if the house cools down, and tell tenants not to turn the heat off when they leave. Replace the filter before break and make sure furniture isn't blocking returns. A fall furnace tune-up catches weak igniters and flame sensors before a long empty stretch in January. Shut off water to outdoor spigots too.

They can be coordinated, though rarely on one simple thermostat. Each system keeps its own control, and we set them up so their areas don't overlap or fight, or add a controller that manages both. Often the cleanest arrangement is letting the addition's system serve only its own space while the boiler handles the original house, with thermostats placed where each system's rooms actually are.
