Yes. A gas furnace draws a modest electrical load, mostly the blower and controls, so a properly sized generator can keep the heat on. It needs a transfer switch or interlock installed by an electrician, never a cord backfed into a house outlet. Modern furnace control boards are sensitive to rough power, so an inverter generator or a standby unit with clean output is the safer choice.

Moving from an 80% furnace to a 96% model also means new PVC venting and a condensate drain, so the route to an outside wall and to a floor drain or pump gets planned during the same visit.
