We inspect the heat exchanger with a mirror and scope, look for soot, rust streaks, or cracks, and check the burner flame pattern.
The flame sensor is pulled, cleaned with a non-abrasive pad, and microamp draw is measured against the manufacturer's spec — the #1 cause of January no-heat calls.
