If both are original, usually yes. The indoor coil sits on the furnace and has to match the outdoor unit, and equipment made from 2025 on uses lower-GWP refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32, so replacing only the condenser often means replacing the coil anyway. Doing both together means one install and a matched system. If the furnace is still sound, we'll say so and quote the AC alone.

The pricing isn't, but the equipment often is. Homes in the former township are more likely to have propane, a private well and septic, and the electric provider may be Wright-Hennepin rather than Xcel Energy. That changes the options, especially whether a dual-fuel heat pump makes sense against your propane cost and your electric rate.

Usually. Most builder furnaces have capacity to spare for a finished basement, because below-grade walls lose less heat than above-grade ones. The problem is distribution: builders often leave two or three supply registers and no return down there. We add supplies off the trunk, a low return and a damper if needed, so the basement gets its share without stealing airflow from upstairs.

Start with where they exit. Side-wall vents on the windward side should sit well above the snow line, and many furnaces accept a manufacturer's kit that raises them. Clear around the intake and exhaust after every storm, and never blow or shovel snow against them. If the furnace shuts off in a storm and restarts after you clear the pipes, that's the cause, and raising or moving the vent is the permanent fix.
