My Hastings house was converted from a gravity furnace. Can the old ducts stay?
Often some of them can. Gravity systems used large round ducts with high wall or floor registers, and those can carry plenty of air for a modern blower once the joints are sealed. The weak side is usually the return, since gravity houses tend to have one or two big floor grilles. We check static pressure, add returns where needed, and look for old asbestos tape at the joints before anyone cuts in.

Almost never. Boilers from the mid-1900s were often sized for the house before insulation and storm windows, and later replacements copied the old nameplate. We do a heat-loss calculation on the house as it stands and total up the radiation, then size the new boiler to that.
