Can we replace the furnace in our Arden Hills house and keep the R-22 air conditioner for now?
Often, yes. If the existing cooling coil fits the new furnace cabinet and the blower can be set for it, the old R-22 system keeps working. The catch comes later: when the AC fails, its coil must be replaced to match the new refrigerant, and that can mean reworking the plenum on a furnace that's only a few years old. If the AC is near 20 years old, replacing both together is usually the better spend.
Does a new furnace in our Arden Manor home need a new roof vent?
Usually. The federal manufactured-home code treats the combustion air inlet and flue outlet as parts of the furnace, listed along with it, so the vent kit or roof jack has to be the one approved for the new model, not whatever the old furnace used. We check the roof penetration and flashing during the quote, and the new vent, the roof work and the permit are all on the written price.
