Are there rebates for a new furnace in Monticello?
Monticello is on Xcel Energy for electricity and CenterPoint Energy for gas, so equipment rebates come from two utilities. Our Monticello basement was finished after we moved in. Should the new furnace change anything down there?
It should. A basement finished without its own supply and return runs is usually cold in winter and stale in summer, and a new furnace can't fix that by itself. During a replacement the ducts are open at the furnace, so adding a supply branch and a return for the finished space is simpler than at any other time. The Manual J includes the basement, so the furnace is sized for the whole house.
Can a new furnace vent through the roof instead of the side wall in Monticello?
Many condensing furnaces allow a vertical roof termination, which avoids drifting snow entirely. It costs more, because the pipe runs up through the house in a closet or chase and needs roof flashing.
