Sometimes, but airflow is the more common cause here. With the bedroom doors closed and no return in those rooms, cool air has no way back to the furnace, so less of it goes in. Try the doors open for an evening; if the rooms improve, it's the return. We check the charge either way, and a transfer grille or a dedicated return usually closes most of the gap.
We replaced our Mounds View furnace, and now the old AC freezes up. Why?
Often the new furnace's blower isn't set for the air conditioner. Modern furnaces have a cooling fan speed that should match the AC's size, and if it's left too low, airflow across the coil drops and the coil ices. A new cabinet can also leave the old coil sitting crooked, with air bypassing it or condensate draining badly. We check the blower setting, the coil fit and the charge together.
