We're replacing the furnace in our old Chaska brick house. What happens to the chimney?
If the new furnace is a 96% model, it exhausts through plastic pipe and no longer uses the chimney. That can leave a gas water heater venting alone into a flue sized for two appliances, which may not draft well and can let condensation damage old brick. The usual fix is a properly sized liner, or a power-vent water heater. We include that in the quote so it isn't a surprise.
Our Jonathan townhome's furnace is in a closet. Can a new one fit?
Usually. A closet install needs a furnace that fits the space with service clearance, a return path and a vent route, and shared walls can limit where a high-efficiency furnace's vent is allowed to exit. Some associations also have rules on vent and condenser locations. We measure first and check those rules before quoting.
Our downtown Chaska house is solid brick with no ductwork upstairs. How can we add air conditioning?
Two approaches work without tearing into masonry. A high-velocity system runs small insulated tubes from an attic air handler down through closets to small round outlets in each room. Ductless heads mount on walls and need only a small hole for the line set. If the house has a forced-air furnace in the basement, we also check whether a supply and return can reach the second floor through a closet or chase.
Does the City of Chaska's electric utility change which AC or heat pump we should buy?
It can. The city's rebate program sets its own efficiency requirements and runs on a limited yearly budget, so a model that qualifies somewhere else may not match its list, and funds can run out before the year ends.
