Are there rebates for a new furnace in Edina?
Edina homes buy gas from CenterPoint Energy and electricity from Xcel Energy. CenterPoint's heating rebates cover high-efficiency boilers as well as furnaces, useful for older houses that still heat with hot water, and you can use the dealer of your choice. Xcel's heat pump rebates, including cold-climate mini-splits for upstairs rooms without ducts, work through its Trade Partner Network, so ask whether the rebate needs a registered contractor. Minnesota's HEAR and HOMES rebates haven't launched. Rebate programs change every year, so check the utility's current terms before you buy.

Will a new furnace fit down the stairs and into our 1930s Edina basement?
Almost always. Modern furnaces are much smaller than the old gravity and early forced-air units, and an upflow model fits through a standard basement door and down a turning stair. Headroom is the tighter limit: a condensing furnace plus the AC coil on top can stand taller than the old setup, so in a low basement we measure to the joists and choose a shorter cabinet or coil to fit.
We have a humidifier on our old furnace. Does it move to the new one in our Edina house?
Sometimes the humidifier body can be remounted, but usually we replace it with the furnace, since the old pad, valve and saddle tap are worn and the new duct connections rarely line up. Plaster-wall Edina houses do well with one in winter, set to follow the outdoor temperature so indoor humidity stays around 25 to 35 percent, lower in deep cold, which keeps frost off the windows.
