AC repair in Bloomington: questions
Our east Bloomington condenser sits beside the dryer vent. Does that matter?
It can. A dryer vent blowing warm, lint-heavy air at the condenser coats the fins and heats the air the unit is trying to shed heat into, so it runs at higher pressure and works harder. Over a summer that shortens capacitor and compressor life. We clean the coil on the repair call, and moving the vent hood or adding a deflector is a cheap fix. At replacement time, the new pad can go elsewhere.
The lower level of our west Bloomington walkout gets cold and clammy with the AC on. Why?
Cold air sinks, and a walkout lower level set into the hillside already runs cool, so it overcools while the upper floors still call for cooling. That level also carries basement humidity. Partly closing some lower-level supply registers helps. If the house has zoning, a stuck damper may be sending too much air down. We check dampers and airflow, and for persistent damp, a dehumidifier sized for the lower level may be the better answer.
