A condensing furnace exhausts through PVC, usually out a side wall, and needs a combustion-air pipe plus a condensate line running to the floor drain or a small pump. The water heater that shared the chimney may be left with a flue too big for it alone, which calls for a liner or a power-vent water heater. The mechanical permit covers the new venting.
