With a forced-air furnace already in place, usually yes: a coil goes on the furnace, a condenser or heat pump goes outside, and the existing ducts carry the cool air. Ducts sized for heat alone can be too small for cooling airflow, so we check static pressure first and may add a return. When the furnace is near the end of its life, replacing both at once often costs less overall.

Usually. Saver's Switch is an Xcel Energy program that cycles your central air conditioner off and on during peak summer demand in exchange for bill savings. It works with standard outdoor units, and on the hottest afternoons the house may run a little warmer than usual. If you would rather use a smart thermostat, Xcel's AC Rewards program does a similar job through the thermostat and pays an annual reward.

It depends on what failed. At 25 to 30 years, an igniter or a blower capacitor is still worth fixing, but a cracked heat exchanger, a failed control board for an obsolete model or a worn-out blower motor usually points to replacement. We inspect the heat exchanger, test for carbon monoxide and give you a written price for the repair and for a replacement, so you can decide with both numbers in front of you.
