Two Westinghouse HVAC lines under one name
Westinghouse Electric Corporation owns the Westinghouse name and licenses it to other companies. In heating and cooling, that has produced two separate product lines.
The first is central equipment: gas furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps built under license by Nordyne, the O'Fallon, Missouri manufacturer that went by Nortek Global HVAC for years and is part of Rheem as of 2026. Nortek's 2016 and 2017 product announcements list Westinghouse among the brands it built and sold. Nordyne's current brand list no longer includes it, and its literature library, archived in October 2025 but still online, files Westinghouse under legacy brands.
The second is ductless. Westinghouse's own site sends its HVAC listings to westinghouseac-usa.com, which sells Westinghouse mini-split systems, and the old westinghousehvac.com address now forwards to Westinghouse's air comfort page. That site doesn't say who builds the mini-splits. The two lines are separate products, so the model number on your unit decides everything.
Where are the model and serial numbers on a Westinghouse unit?
Start with the rating plate, the label inside the furnace's blower compartment or on the condenser's service panel. On Nordyne-built units, the 4th and 5th digits of the serial number give the year it was built and the 6th and 7th the month. That date tells us which revision of the manual and parts list applies, and it frames the repair-or-replace conversation.
The model number gives the family. Nordyne's library lists Westinghouse furnaces in the same FG6 and FG7 families it built for Frigidaire, including the FG7TE/FG7TN two-stage furnace that Nortek announced in 2017 with Frigidaire and Westinghouse versions. Frigidaire still sells FG7TE and FG7TN-VS models, so that family is still in production. Westinghouse condensers carry prefixes such as FS, FSA, ES and JS. A phone picture of that label lets us bring the right parts on the first trip.
Keeping an older Westinghouse furnace running
The FG7TE/FG7TN shows what's inside these furnaces. Nortek listed a silicon-nitride SmartLite hot surface igniter, a 16-speed fixed-torque ECM blower, a dehumidification terminal that lowers airflow for better moisture removal in cooling, a jumper for two-stage heating from a single-stage thermostat, and three LED status lights for troubleshooting. We read those lights before we touch a part.
Most repairs on these furnaces are the ones any furnace of that age needs: igniters, flame sensors, pressure switches, inducer motors, and ECM blower motors or their control modules. Nordyne published replacement control board instructions for its G6, G7 and L1 furnaces, so a failed board doesn't have to retire an older unit. Westinghouse air conditioners, heat pumps and R-22
On the cooling side, the refrigerant settles a lot. Some older Westinghouse-listed condensers, such as the 13 SEER JS5BD, ran on R-22, which hasn't been produced or imported since January 2020. Recharging one means reclaimed or stockpiled refrigerant at a steep price, so an R-22 unit with a leak is usually a replacement. Our post on the R-22 phase-out lays out the options. Later R-410A condensers, including the 16 SEER FS4BF, can still be repaired and recharged, and a bad capacitor, contactor or fan motor on one is usually worth fixing.
The FS4BG and FS4BI were Nordyne's iQ inverter-driven condensers, rated 20 and up to 25.5 SEER. Their parts are pricier than a single-stage condenser's, so on an older unit we quote the repair and a replacement side by side. A Westinghouse heat pump still heating a Minnesota house needs a furnace or electric backup behind it for the coldest weeks.
Westinghouse ductless today, and booking
The current Westinghouse mini-splits are inverter heat pumps. Wall-mount single-zone systems come in three tiers, and the first letter of the model number tells you which: S for Entry, including the 115-volt S09SZA1 and S12SZA1 for a sunroom or bedroom, P for the ENERGY STAR certified Mid tier and Z for Premium. There are also ceiling cassettes, a multi-position air handler that uses ductwork, and multi-zone systems that run two to five indoor units from one outdoor unit. The outdoor units have a basepan heater for cold climates; check the low-temperature heating rating on the spec sheet before counting on one as the only heat in a Minnesota room. When an old Westinghouse furnace or condenser is done, we run a Manual J load calculation and quote current equipment that suits the house. Does Westinghouse still make furnaces?
Not the Nordyne-built kind. Nordyne now lists Westinghouse among its legacy brands, and its current brand list includes Frigidaire, Gibson and Maytag instead. The Westinghouse name, owned by Westinghouse Electric Corporation, now appears on ductless mini-splits and portable air conditioners, and the old westinghousehvac.com address forwards to Westinghouse's air comfort page. Existing Westinghouse furnaces can still be serviced.
How old is my Westinghouse furnace?
Read the serial number on the rating plate inside the blower door. On Nordyne-built equipment, the 4th and 5th digits are the year and the 6th and 7th are the month, so 12 in the 4th and 5th places means a 2012 build. Nordyne uses that date to match the right manual to your unit, and we use it to weigh a repair against replacement.
Is a Westinghouse furnace the same as a Frigidaire?
Often, under the badge. Nortek's 2017 announcement of its FG7TE/FG7TN 96% two-stage furnace listed Broan, Frigidaire, NuTone and Westinghouse versions, and Frigidaire still sells FG7TE and FG7TN-VS models in its Brilliance series. Nordyne's library files Westinghouse furnaces under the same FG model families, so we match parts by the full model number rather than the name on the door.
Should I repair or replace an old Westinghouse air conditioner?

Only by name. The mini-splits sold through westinghouseac-usa.com are a separate product line, and that site doesn't name the manufacturer. They're inverter heat pumps with wall-mount, ceiling cassette and ducted air handler options, and Westinghouse offers an extended 10-year warranty when you register one online. For service on either, the model number on the unit is what we go by.
